Sierra Club Chinook

Our national Sierra Club office is looking for three new directors.

The Sierra Club Canada Board of Directors consists of 9 elected members and includes two categories: 7 regular members-at-large and 2 youth members.

Each year, one third of Board members are elected for a three-year term. This year, the Board has three vacancies to fill:

• 2 “regular” positions for 2012-2015
• 1 “youth” position for 2012-2015

For all positions, candidates must be at least 18 years of age.  For youth positions, candidates must be between 18 and 30 years old. Candidates must also have been members of Sierra Club Canada in good standing for at least one year.  For this year’s election, anyone who joined the Club on or before June 30, 2011, is eligible to run as a candidate for the board. We are particularly looking for anyone who may have some experience in financial management systems and, as always, fundraising!

The Board of Directors meets every other month by teleconference.  It meets in person in May and November as well as for a 1 1/2 day meeting (usually in Ottawa).  If financial circumstances permit, the May meeting is moved around the country. The directors of the Board set Sierra Club Canada’s vision and policies, oversee prudent financial management, hire and guide the Executive Director, and help establish and evaluate our strategic objectives.

Nominations for the 2012 Sierra Club Canada Board of Directors must be received by March 30, 2012.  You may also seek election as a petition candidate. Petition candidates are included on the ballot as long as they are accompanied by the signatures of one percent of current members. Contact the national office for details about becoming a petition candidate. Deadline for petition candidates is May 4, 2012.
