Spring Cleaning
Last night was our first sponsored session of What’s Next where we learned how to make our own natural cleaning supplies. Heather and Philip did a great job in teaching us how to make laundry powder, bathroom scrub and disinfectant spray. The recipes were very simple. Most ingredients are available in a regular supermarket or at organic stores.
Because it was so much fun we are also going to sponsor next month’s session on seed balls and global bucket making. The session will be on Monday, April 16th at the Old Y Centre for Community Organizations from 5:30pm to 8:00pm. Continue reading
What’s Next?
We are partnering with a new initiative called What’s Next, a monthly knowledge and skill sharing series. It is based on the principle that everyone in the community has knowledge and skills to both share and receive. We need more local skills to create independent, vibrant and sustainable communities, reduce our emissions and waste of resources and work against climate change. Each meeting starts off with a shared potluck dinner to get to know each other and build community.
Our group and What’s Next are partnering for three sessions (and possibly more in the future). Here are a few suggestions what we could cover in our shared sessions:
- Upcycling – give ‘waste’ a new purpose
- Homemade natural cleaning supplies [March 19 session]
- Re-create clothes – turn old into new with sewing, stitching, knitting, etc.
- Making seed bombs to bring wilderness back into the city [April 16 session]
- Reduce plastic use
Do you have a burning topic to discuss, a skill you want to learn or share? Please tell us in the comments below so we can plan interesting sessions.
