Pesticide Free Calgary

We have been honoured to work with four communications students from Mount Royal University on our first campaign since coming out of hibernation. Amy, Andrea, Rebecca and Yolanda updated our info postcard and the new information on the website. As part of their research they were looking at successful campaigns in other cities like Halifax and Toronto that went pesticide-free years ago.

Our campaign is supported by The Calgary Foundation and in partnership with the Coalition for a Healthy Calgary.

Ghost Watershed

Last year in September we went on a spectacular hike in the Ghost River Valley near Cochrane guided by members of the Ghost Watershed Alliance Society (GWAS). We learned many interesting facts about watersheds and the important role they play in filtering water and providing us with fresh drinking water. Many thousand people enjoy the beauty of the Ghost Valley every year for recreation and camping. Unwittingly they contribute to degradation and pollution in the area because there are not enough outhouses for the number of visitors. Every year, hundreds of tons of human manure pollute the streams in the watershed and degrade the fresh drinking water. In partnership with GWAS we want to bring more outhouses into the Ghost Valley to keep the water clean and to make sure that the Ghost Valley remains beautiful for generations to come.
